Navien Tankless Water Heater Reviews

If you are looking to upgrade your existing hot water system or planning the construction of a new home, Navien Condensing Water Heater Systems are well worth exploring. Navien design and manufacture state of the art, innovative tankless water heaters and have been in the industry for many years.

What makes Navien stand out from the rest? Navien invest in high quality and superior technology unmatched by its competitors. This includes the incorporation of stainless steel heat exchangers, the recycling of exhaust gas (wasted in other tankless brands) and boasts a far better energy factor than traditional hot water tanks and its tankless rivals.

If you are seeking a green option, a Navien on demand water heater is a smart choice. Their ultra-efficient designs use far less gas, producing far less green gas emissions.

Watch the below Youtube clip to see if the Navien Tankless Water Heater is for you.

All of the Navien NPE models feature:

  •  2” PVC venting facilitating an easier installation as no additional holes need to be drilled for venting.
  • Dual stainless steel heat exchangers
  • Ultra low NOx emissions
  • Utilizes the existing ½” gas line (perfect for tank replacement)
  • Recirculation pump included (saving time and money)
  • Cascading capabilities
  • Field convertible (Natural Gas to Propane)
  • Easy installation (possible for one person only)

We have reviewed the Navien tankless water heaters from the NPE series and you will notice the models end with either and ‘A’ or an ‘S’. To breakdown the A and the S  – the A indicates the Advanced models (240A, 210A, 180A) and the S refers to the standard model (240S, 210s, 180s). The Advanced models consist of premium, high efficiency features that is unsurpassed against its tankless water heater competitors. The ‘S’ models come at a cheaper price and do not incorporate Navien’s trademark Comfort Flow Technology, which eliminates cold water sandwich, saves water due to the ultra-fast time to get the hot water, built-in recirculation system and innovative pre-heating function.

Let’s take a look further at the Navien Tankless Water Heater Reviews.

Navien Tankless Water Heater Features

Navien NPE Ultra Condensing Efficiency

The Navien Condensing Tankless Water Heaters are highly efficient units and when compared against their non-condensing rivals, they outperform in almost every way.

Navien tankless heaters are able to utilize existing gas infrastructure and are ideal for water heater upgrades, whereas non-condensing units usually require an upgrade of the line to ensure proper operation. This makes installing the Navien on demand heater easier and cheaper over its non-condensing counterparts. Additionally, non-condensing units use category 3 venting whereas the Navien tankless water heaters can use PVC venting.

Navien Tankless units have a higher energy factor and a higher output than its non-condensing competitors – take a look at the Youtube clip to see the comparison.

Overall, output and performance of the Navien Tankless Heater is higher and costs are equal if not lower than non-condensing units.

Cascading Capabilities

The Navien Tankless Water Heaters can be cascaded with up to 16 units for commercial requirements. When used in a cascading operation, when one of the units reaches 80% capacity, the next unit will initiate, to supplement the water heating requirements. The flow and demand ratio will continue until the maximum of 16 units are producing hot water on demand. The innovative technology of the Navien cascading arrangement balances out the workload of each unit, consequently prolonging the life expectancy of each individual unit.

Stainless Steel Heat Exchangers

The Navien NPE models features dual stainless steel heat exchangers providing higher quality and longer life expectancy over copper heat exchangers. Furthermore, stainless steel is less susceptible to mineral deposit build up. The stainless steel heat exchangers recover extra heat that would be lost in non-condensing heaters, in turn keeping exhaust temperatures low enough that schedule 40 PVC piping can be used for venting in most applications.

Intelligent Preheating Technology

The Navien NPE Series Tankless units employ premium and sophisticated technology that recognizes hot water usage patterns to provide hot water on demand.

Comfort Flow Technology

Only the NPE-A series tankless heaters feature Navien’s Comfort Flow Technology which is designed to:

  • eliminate cold water sandwich
  • save water with the reduced time to receive hot water
  • save money with the built-in recirculation system
  • intelligent pre-heating capability

Warranty

All of the Navien NPE series units come with the following warranty:

  • 15 years for heat exchangers
  • 5 years for parts
  • 1 year for labor
